Ahead of the grand analogue switch off that begins December 31st, Startimes media has announced an immense drop in the cost of acquiring its approved DVB T2 set top boxes in a move aimed to facilitate a smooth and affordable transition from analogue to digital broadcasting. The set top box will now cost you ksh199. Yes you read right. You are sorted for the holidays with a new set top box from startimes.
That is not the last great offer startime has for you this December, the digital television company has also released the most affordable bonquet in the country; Nyota that will be retailing at just ksh 149 per month giving Kenyans access to 8 international channels including Star Swahili, E-Star, Star Music, Star Kungfu, Child Smile, God TV, I qraa TV, CCTV News and a host of local content.
This comes few days after rival company multi-choice reduced the price of set-top box to 1,799 from 3,999 with a two months subscription tagged to it. Startimes definitely has its game on considering the majority of Kenyans are below the middle class bracket and are not in a position to sustain expensive set top box and subscription. This will see about 38 million Kenyans living under the poverty line switchover with the rest of Kenya.
Kenyans also have a choice of subscribing to either enjoy 1 month Unique bouquet (over 76 channels), 45 days Classic bouquet (over 55 channels), 3 months Basic bouquet (over 37 channels) or 10 months Nyota bouquet for just ksh1500 subscription fee. The move is advised by the company's vision to ensure every household has access and enjoys digital television noting that the company has rolled out extensive after sales services to ensure the best customer experience with the StarTimes set top box.
Startimes has also rolled out a 24 hour call centre and a free door to door after sales service to further bolster their offering. The company has made a 20% drop for the Dual Feature Free To Air Digital Box that will now be retailing at Ksh 3,999 with access to one month free viewing of the Unique bouquet worth Ksh. 1,499. The Free to Air set top box is upgradable to the company's pay television platform at a subscriber's will, while giving free access to local channels upon expiry of the monthly subscription for good.
To guarantee the best signal reception, the company has similarly made a 28% subsidy for the external antenna and cable. The outdoor antenna and a ten meter cable will now retail at Ksh 1,000 down from Ksh 1,400. Upon purchasing, the set top boxes come with a one year warranty with this offers available in all Startimes outlets, supermarkets and all the 210 dealer outlets across the country.
