According to World Economic Forum Global Information Technology Report, Mauritius is the most ready in terms of exploiting the opportunities presented by information and communication technologies (ICT) in Africa.

While Mauritius was ranked 48th globally South Africa 70th, Tunisia 87th, Cape Verde 89th, Egypt 91st , Kenya 92nd , Ghana 96th , Morocco 99th , Botswana 103rd , Gambia 107th , Zambia 110th , Zimbabwe 117th  and finally Nigeria ranked 133rd.

With the theme "Rewards and Risks of Big Data." The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) released on the World Economic Forum GITR measured and capacity of 148 economies. This showed dominance of developed economies in the top rankings with Finland, Singapore, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, United States, Hong Kong SAR, Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom leading the pack globally.

Emerging and developing nations are at risk of missing out on many positive impacts information and communications technologies (ICT) including increased innovation, economic competitiveness and greater social inclusion.

Little progress made in bridging digital divide between technologically advanced countries and regions. This will be in position if only governments implement policies to boost ICT.
