Africa newest online music platform is set to distribute music digitally to over a million users in a year's time across Africa but currently starting off in Tanzania.

Mzito.com was originally created to provide a payment system that would work for Tanzania through mobile money which is dominant among users. Already having 200 artists and counting, the platform also provides an online option for interested individuals to sign up. This will help distribute music for smaller artists in the industry.

"We don't choose the music we have. We'll carry any music if the quality is good enough with music genres; bongo flava, tana, pop music and reggae with bongo flava making 40% of the catalogue.

The split in the short period since the launch is 90% free tracks and 10% pay for: the free strategy is also aimed at generating the ambitious 1 million registered user target they have set themselves in the first year. Most of its users found the platform through social media and has 7-8 million online users in Tanzania, the focus is definitely at the region before including Kenya and Uganda.
