Finally someone airs a complaint against telco giant Safaricom after CCK gave a platform for Kenyans to raise objections as to why the giant telecoms company should not have its licence renewed. Isn't it too late though? This was to last a month until deadline. How far this goes only time will tell.
Information Communication Technology of Kenya (ICTAK) has urged Communications Commission of Kenya not to renew Safaricom's licence over alleged failure to comply with the constitution, sector legislation and licence conditions.
The technology body has threatened to seek the intervention of the Supreme Court in case the regulator gives the license in a manner that is not convincing. ICTAK has gone ahead to say Safaricom has also failed to establish and publicise a complaints handling mechanism. Compensation has also come up as an issue since the company does not compensate its clients whenever the systems are down as required by Kenya Information and Communications (Consumer Protection) Regulations, 2010.
ICTAK comes forward on behalf of a wide variety of Information technology players and stakeholders in the market.
